Puy du Fou will be holding a further round of consultation on their proposals and would like to share this message;
About Puy du Fou
Puy du Fou is a multiple award-winning world leader in creating spectacular historical live shows and immersive experiences based upon the history and culture of a country and its people. We have wanted to come to the UK for many years and bring Britain’s rich and colourful history to life. We spent considerable time searching for exactly the right location – a place in the countryside where we can create a new forest, plant 20,000 new trees and acres of wildflower meadows, with excellent transport links, surrounded by British heritage and existing historical attractions. A new Puy du Fou destination in Oxfordshire would represent a £600 million investment in the local economy over the next ten years, and would employ 700 people, plus create as many as 2,000 new jobs at hotels, suppliers and other local businesses, from its first year of opening. These numbers are expected to treble over its first ten years of operation. In July 2024, we announced our initial concepts and held a series of public consultation events. Since then, we have continued to engage, meeting hundreds of residents, businesses and organisations from across Oxfordshire, reviewing the feedback we have received, and working further on our plans.
Summary of our proposals
We are proposing:
- A destination attraction where, from April to October each year, visitors can walk through a beautiful, wooded park with stunning landscaped gardens, and immerse themselves in British history with carefully curated period villages, a series of world-class live shows and three onsite hotels, each themed to a different period of British history
- A state of the art conference centre, attracting business conferences to Bicester all year round
- Extensive landscaping and planting, with new ponds, lakes and gardens, as well as more than 40 acres of wildflower meadows, and the first new forest in Oxfordshire for generations, covering 50 acres and with 20,000 new trees being planted
- Improvements to the B4100 to create a convenient connection to the motorway, but also investment in public transport and providing a free shuttle service to nearby train stations as part of our aim to deliver an average of 50% of daytime visits to the park by sustainable travel methods
- Sustainability measures such as the generation of renewable energy onsite, our own water treatment facility to treat all sewage onsite, with the cleaned water used for the gardens or recycled for agricultural use, and a recycling centre so that 99% of the park’s waste will be sorted and processed onsite
